My 5e Sand box Solo campaign
One of the areas I'll be covering is my solo gaming - I regularly play solo RPG in a variety of genre's but my main focus at the moment is using 5e in my home-brew 'Dark World' setting. A Faerun adjacent planet I've used on and off for many years.
For the campaign I decided to use a three player party. Originally two Tieflings, a Rogue and Warlock (not sure why two tie flings - although I'd never played one before and I had this idea about evil characters maybe having more scope in a solo game. Then initially I had a haughty elf Paladin - unfortunately on a mission into a dark, brooding forest to track an unusual number of undead creatures troubling a local village, there was a battle in which the party was jumped by Lizard Folk and the Paladin was killed. So I substituted her for a Goliath Barbarian, who has vowed revenge on the creatures that killed her predecessor. As you see from the photo I'm using D&D Beyond for character sheets. I'm also using the DM notes in a campaign there to log game sessions with a little bit of journalling to keep my memory fresh as to events it it's a few days since my last game - I journal a fair amount when I'm solo'ing but for this campaign I'm trying to keep it light - this is designed to be a simple game where I go on a mission, kill and loot monsters and basically try things out as I advance these characters from 1st Level onwards - I'm trying where possible to play rules as written and just let me mind and therefore the characters wander across the landscape, very little focus or plan.
So I began this one in October 2022 (when I came down with Covid again and had some free time) and have so far played eight or nine hours - the characters are well into a mysterious haunted tower in the woods searching for the mastermind behind the local undead uprising, plus two of them have recently been bitten by a werewolf - all good fun.
I'll talk about this more in a later post but I use a hybridised DM emulator that I've created from several commercially available options.
